Stanley John Makowicz Jr., 72, of Decatur, joined his Lord and Savior on Saturday evening 28 June 2003.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church with Father James O'Shea as celebrant. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to: DMH Home Health & Hospice Services. Stanley, or ”Stash” as family and friends called him, was born on May 10, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Stella Domkowski Makowicz Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea and the Chicago Police Department. While with the Chicago Police, he was awarded several citations for bravery and valor and was later promoted to detective. He also served as a body guard for the late Mayor Richard J. Daily. Stan served Macon County as the Veterans Administration Superintendent. Stan enjoyed retirement by driving a school bus for Durham School Services. He was a past commandant of the Decatur Chapter Marine Corps League, belonged to the American Legion and Knights of Columbus was a lifetime member of: VFW Post 99, Military Order of the Cootie, and past commander of DAV Post 17 of Decatur. He met Beverly Jeanne King while he was a Chicago Policeman and she was attending nursing school. They married on September 19, 1959.
Surviving are: his wife, son Michael his wife Karla and their children: Nicolette, Amber, Jacki, Kara, Kathleen and Kristina of Oklahoma City, OK.: son Daniel and his daughter Danielle of Decatur; daughter Sheryl Ray her son Jacob and her fiancee Randy Bates of Decatur; daughter Susan Mason her husband Kevin and their children Felicia, Mackenzie, and Chase of Decatur; Stan's sister, Loraine Wheeler and her husband Dewey of Golden, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and grandson. Jordan E. Ray.
