Stephen J. McNamara's Obituary
Stephen Joseph McNamara passed away suddenly on Friday, April 5th in Rockport, Indiana. Funeral services will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Decatur, Il. Tuesday, April 9th with visitation beginning at 10 am and Mass at 11am.
Stephen was born on September 19, 1945 in Decatur, Il., the son of Norbert and Marguerite (Raupp) McNamara.
Stephen graduated from St. Patrick’s Grade School, St. Teresa High School and Illinois State University with a Master’s Degree in education. He went on to teach at Porta High School in Petersburg, Il, Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas U.S.Virgin Islands, Brescia University in Owensboro, KY and Owensboro City Schools.
Stephen had a great love of flowers and maintained a green house full of orchids and other beautiful flowers that he shared generously with all he knew. He had many florists who bought the orchids from him especially at Easter time. He had a fervent love of antiques and wildlife and Planet Earth and it’s preservation.
Surviving is his faithful companion dog, Ginger, and his siblings: David (Kathy) McNamara, Patty Sobek, Martha (John) Brinkoetter, Ruth (Gary) Towne, Jim McNamara, Patrick (Sherrie) McNamara, and Tim (Karen) McNamara.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Kevin Sobek.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends near his home in Indiana – especially Jennifer Head.
