Susan O'Brien Swanson's Obituary
Susan O'Brien Swanson, 55, of Decatur, died Tuesday, May 2, 2007, in her home.
Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life will be 10:30 am. Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Jeff Stone celebrant; visitation will be Friday, May 4 from 5 to 8 pm in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to: Inflammatory Breast Cancer Association or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Susan was born on August 6, 1951, in Decatur, the daughter of Donald William and Caroline Hays O'Brien. She worked as a Special Education Teacher for the Decatur School District for 27 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Council for Exceptional Children, Red Hats Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Susan was voted Illinois Education Association Teacher of the year in 2003 while teaching at Brush College School. She married Lloyd Swanson July 19, 1975, in Decatur.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd of Decatur; son, Andrew Swanson of Washington; brothers: Michael Moira O'Brien of Bloomingdale, NJ, William Joseph O'Brien of Charleston, and Stephen Susan O'Brien of Mattoon; sisters: Mary John Olson of Bloomington, Madonna Mahon of Oreana, and Regina Butch Welch of Fort Smith, AR; three nieces, four nephews, one great niece, and many colleagues and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Judy O’Brien.
