Sylvester Spence, Jr, 70, of Decatur, IL went home to be with his Lord on June 24, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL surrounded by his loving family.
Sylvester was born on October 30, 1950 in Corinth, Mississippi, to the union of Sylvester Spence, Sr and Ada Maurice Lusk. Sylvester was joined in marriage to Liesel LaGarde on January 12, 1971 in Decatur, IL. Liesel, his loving wife of 50 years survives. Sylvester also leaves not to mourn but to cherish his memory his son: Malcom (Shawna) Spence, Sr; his daughter: Sharon Spence; grandchildren: Malcolm Spence, Jr; Alexius Spence; Tyeisha Clark and Terria Clark; 2 great-grandchildren: Brylan and BB; his siblings: Marylynn Foster; Sylvia Rowe; Catherine (Chris) Scott; Harold Spence; Carol (Dan) Collins; Sharon Johnson; Shelia (Robert) Sangster; Terry Spence; Carl Spence; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents.
Sylvester was a member of Jasper St. Church of Christ in Decatur, where he served as Church Treasurer. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, along with the University of Illinois Football and Basketball. He loved to watch all sporting events. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his beloved family and friends.
Homegoing Services to celebrate Sylvester’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday (July 3, 2021) at Jasper St. Church of Christ, Decatur, with a viewing from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Church. Sylvester will be laid to rest at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.
