Thelma E. Johnson's Obituary
Thelma E. Johnson, 89, of Decatur, departed this life on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at McKinley Court Nursing Home.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 2, 2012, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur, with Pastor Marvin Joyner officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
Thelma was born August 4, 1922, in Metropolis, Illinois, daughter of William Henry and Eliza Warfield. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church for over thirty years. While still a member, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She later united with New Salem Baptist Church, where she attended regularly until her health began to fail.
In her journey with Christ, Thelma met and married Perry J. Johnson on April 4, 1950, in Decatur, Illinois. Together they raised one daughter, Harolyn Cook Finley and four sons, Perry Johnson, Jr., Ntaka Triimar, Sr., Maxie Johnson, Sr., and Lewis Johnson, Sr.
Thelma was educated in Metropolis public school system. After moving to Decatur, she cared for foster children and devoted much of her time helping others.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Harolyn J.D. Finley, three sons, Ntaka Sr. Mary Triimar; Maxie Sr. Janet Johnson; Lewis Johnson and special friend Eva Lewis, all of Decatur, IL; 21 grandchildren, Antonio, Anthony, Twila, Tina Cook; Kimberly Jameson; Perry III, Phillip, William, Edward, Andre Johnson; Scarlet Lowery; Ntaka Jr. and Casheem Triimar; Sherrie Pearson; Maxie Jr., Latoya, Leondus, Lewis Jr., Markus, Jackie Johnson; and many great and great-great grandchildren; special niece, Deborah Ford, along with a host of other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, three sisters, and one son.
She was an amazing wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
The family wants to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at McKinley Court for welcoming her in with their kindness and loving care.
