Thelma Peoples' Obituary
Thelma Elizabeth Peoples, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2017, in Decatur, IL.
Thelma was born on July 8, 1927, in Bourbon, Mississippi to Junious and Ellen Salette (Lovins) McGee. She enjoyed spending time with her children and family members.
Early in life she married Artis T. Slater and Later on married Henry Peoples.
She became a member of New Salem Baptist Church under Rev. Hale.
During her life, she worked at Muirheads Nursing Home and later became a Licensed Daycare Provider.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Jerome Slater, Patrick Slater, Rachel Hitchcock, Christine (Charles) Matthews, Barbara Howard, Vernell (Bruce) Wilson, Shannon (Charity) Slater, Darren (Patricia) Peoples, Gregory Peoples and Godson, Allen (Michelle) Henry, her siblings Willie McGee, Elvin McGee, Roosevelt (Marilynn) McGee, Goldie Clark, and her best friend and sister, Charlene Young, special niece, Renee Young. A host of grandchildren and great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Beatrice Slater; a grandson, Jeffrey Slater; a sister, Rosetta King, brother, Charles “Footney” McGee; son-in-law, James L. Howard.
Home going services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
