Thomas E. Emert's Obituary
Thomas “Tom” Eugene Emert, 69, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Decatur, IL. Born on March 25, 1956, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Hayes) Emert.
Tom married his beloved wife, Wanda (Braughton) Emert, on May 18, 1988, in Decatur, IL. They spent a wonderful 52 years together before Tom’s passing. Tom was a proud United States Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War era. Even after his service, he continued to be an avid supporter of the US military. Tom had many hobbies, including camping, fishing, playing cards, watching the news, and traveling. He loved music, specifically rock and roll and jazz. He was a talented wood worker who specialized in crafting canes for himself and others. Tom would often sit on the porch and watch the birds and squirrels that he regularly fed. He was incredibly funny and outspoken, and above all else, he loved his family.
Tom is survived by his wife — Wanda Emert of Decatur, IL; two children — Michael Emert of Decatur, IL, and Katherine (Andrew) Webb of Mt. Zion, IL; five grandchildren — Alainna, Kiera, Arianna, Kaedance, and Ashton Webb of Mt. Zion, IL; two sisters — Katherine Dickenson of Decatur, IL, and Madelyn (Herb) Pugsley of Decatur, IL; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents — Frederick and Elizabeth Emert; and two brothers — Charles and Douglas Emert.
