Thomas Francis Fitzgerald's Obituary
Thomas Francis Fitzgerald, 94, of Decatur, died Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm, Friday, August 24, 2007 in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Very Reverend James O'Shea celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery, Bethany. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Thomas was born on May 15, 1913 in Bethany, IL, the son of John T. and Lucy T. Tueth Fitzgerald. He served his country proudly in the 106th Infantry of the U.S. Army. He was a POW captured by the Germans at the Battle of the Belgian Bulge in December of 1944. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He retired as a lineman from Illinois Power and then worked as the maintenance man at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church until retiring. He married Mary Louise Dieckhoff on September 2, 1942 and she preceded him in death on February 22, 1996.
Surviving are his nephews, Eugene Fitzgerald of Decatur; John McDermott of Decatur; John Fitzgerald of Decatur; Michael Mason of Marietta, GA; Father Thomas Fitzgerald of Watertown, WI; nieces: Marilyn Kaiser of Silver Spring, MD, and Theresa Fitzgerald of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Richard Dennis Fitzgerald; two brothers: John and Daniel; four sisters: Margaret, Sister Alice Marie, Mary, Katherine; one niece, Mary Jane Doubet.
