Thomas E. Gipson's Obituary
Thomas E. “Tom” Gipson, 58, of Decatur, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Decatur.
Tom was born April 1, 1952 in Litchfield, the son of George Thomas Gipson and Jeanette Pigati Fox. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Tom worked as a union laborer for forty years. He was currently working for Otto-Baum Construction and was a member of Laborers Union Local #159. He married Karen Leonard on May 9, 1987 and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his sons: Matt of Decatur, Nate wife, Jenny of Mt. Zion, and Scott of Decatur; mother, Jeanette Fox of Litchfield; father, George Thomas Gipson of Litchfield; and brothers: Mike wife, Paula Baker of Texas, Gary Baker of Decatur, Joey Gipson of Maryland, Tim Gipson of Texas, Todd Gipson of Missouri, and Clinton Sanders of Gillespie; sister, Angie Ryder of Missouri; mother in law, Gloria Leonard; many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Baker; father-in-law, Russ Leonard; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Tom enjoyed experiencing his Italian heritage firsthand by traveling to Italy with relatives. He was dedicated to his work and took great pride in it. Family was an important part of his life. He liked fishing and sports. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend who was always willing to help others. He will be missed by many.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, August 30, 2010 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, August 29, 2010 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, vigil prayer service will be at 5 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis. Memorial gifts may be given to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
