Thomas Earl “T” Smith, 73, of Decatur passed away October 12, 2020. Tom was born September 25, 1947 in Lafayette, IN, son of Otis Earl and Margaret Jane (Deinhart) Smith. He married Judy Grigsby on September 7, 1968 in Decatur, IL Read Obituary

Dear Judy and family,
I know your hearts are shattered. 😢 Tom will be missed by so many; he impacted many lives on so many levels. He treated everyone equally and respectfully. This I observed working with him at the Housing Authority. He was a great boss. A little chuckle though, when we saw that jaw set, it'd be best to shush or clear the area. 🤣 (But that was rare). My husband enjoyed chatting with him; it seemed they had alot in common. This I also know, he loved his "bride" and family wholeheartedly. The coming days will not be easy but I know you'll have so much support from family and friends. May God's merciful kindness and steadfast love be your comfort according to His promises. I tried to locate you in the Norfolk area to reconnect....to no avail. Please know the mark you left in our hearts. I still drive by your homes in the Point Section and at Fort Adams and recall those happy days!

Judy and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. Time spent on Graceland avenue is always a pleasant memory. Playing freeze tag, kick the can, and hide and seek. I can remember Tom first bringing Judy to meet everyone at my grandparents house, bringing Judy over to show us her paper dress she was wearing for the first time and of course your wedding. My thoughts and prayers for you and all the family at this sad time.

My sincere condolences to the Smith Family! Tom was a great man and a great leader! I had the pleasure of working for him as a young police officer working an off duty job in Longview. He was truly a man of high integrity and was admired by all of us. May God Bless all of you!
