Thomas Russell "Rusty" Vording's Obituary
Thomas Russell “Rusty” Vording, 74, of Mt. Zion, passed away August 16, 2023, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Rusty was born in Decatur on August 15, 1949, the son of Wilmer Russell and Ann (Pillings) Vording. He earned an Associate’s degree from Richland Community College and worked as a machinist at TCCI. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and Harley rider. He married Connie Richert in Decatur on April 27, 1974. Together they were members of Locust Grove Church.
Rusty is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Tina Vording of Gadsden, Alabama; siblings Virginia “Ginger” Lowe and Steven “Ed” Vording; grandchildren Sarah Cox and Tommy Butler; great-grandchildren Brady, Kiron, and Amara; sister-in-law Wanda (Fred), Annie (Terry), and Cathy (Mark); brother-in-law Donnie (Lindi); several nieces and nephews; golfing buddy Reid; and bowling buddy Benny. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Johnnie LeeAnn Sparks; and brothers-in-law Mark and Terry.
Visitation for Rusty will be from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, August 28, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, August 29, also at the funeral home. Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
