Thomas R. Whitaker's Obituary
Thomas R. Whitaker, 63 of Decatur Illinois, transitioned to eternal sleep on October 4, 2025, with his son and daughter at his side. He was born on October 17, 1961, to Nancy S. Whitaker (Worthey). Tom was a proud father, grandfather, and son.
His legacy lives in our love for him, and he will forever be alive in our hearts. Thomas is survived by son; Joshua Whitaker, Daughter Rachel Whitaker, Son-in-law Darin Vincent, grandchildren Autumn Wood, Ezra Vincent and Aurora Vincent, His aunts Shiela K: Vivian Ekiss, Mary O'Dell and many cousins.
Our father was preceded in death by; his mother Nancy Whitaker, Grandparents Clyde & Marietta Worthey, Uncles; Eugene and Butch Worthey, Aunt Edna Groves and his dogs Rex, Sloopy and Paisley.
He leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and photos. Our dad was a man of few words and friends but a man of great resilience and strength. He was a minimalist. Soft spoken, kind, compassionate, and always had an ear to lend. After the death of his mother in 2013 he was lonely, misguided and utterly broken, but he never let that steal his kindness towards others and he stayed unapologetically himself until his death.
Tommy and I love you more than words could ever be said, and we hope grandma is waiting for you on the other side. Until we see you again, daddy. We hope you fly high and we love you.
“ I'm not your son, you're not my father were just two grown men saying goodbye no need to forgive, no need to forget, I know your mistakes, and you know mine and while your sleeping I'll try to make you proud so, daddy, won't you just close your eyes? Don't be afraid, it's my turn to chase the monsters away”- James Blunt.
Obituary written by his loving family.
