So sorry to just now hear of Tina‘s passing. I met her in the early 90s and we talked often up until like 2006. But I would wish her happy birthday every year. Curious what she was doing & to let her know that I think about her often. Something told me to, Google her name and this came up. I met her and Beth long time ago. She was a very good lady. She helped me out by tutoring my surrogate daughter when I was no longer with my ex girlfriend .She’d be glad to know that the girl she helped from low income housing, is a professor And her major was English … she had a slang dialect. Between myself and Tina correcting her, It’s stuck with her.

I had the pleasure of working for Tina at West. Tina always treated her staff and students as if we were family. She was the only administrator that parents and staff trusted. She will be truly missed.

Ms. Gurly was the best teacher I have ever had in my academic career. She taught me at Ferguson for 2 years, Pre-K and kindergarten. One of my fondest memories of her is when she took myself and other girls from our class to the beach, she even had a little sleepover for us at her place. We had such a nice time. I will never forget her warm welcome, kind spirit and selfless acts of service. My mother and I have been searching for Ms.Gurly for years in hopes of catching up and sharing photos. Thank you for everything Ms.Gurly! Job well done.

I didn’t know Ms. Gurly personally but I talked to her several times on the phone about certain students. Her reputation came to me through these students and others who would stop in from time to time to visit from RESA. Being a 5th grade teacher at the time, my alumni students talked very highly of her and I truly feel that without her guidance, some if them would have fallen through the cracks. I’m saddened that so many will miss out on her presence. This is a loss not only to her family, friends, and students, but to future students.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Tina’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Tina many years ago, during a difficult time in her life. I learned so much from her by how she handled that part of her life. She was the strongest person I’ve ever known. She was a graceful, caring, giving person. It is truly a loss to all who knew her. During this time, she coined a term I use to this day when necessary, “Marshmallow hugs”. My sincere condolences to the family.

I am saddened by this. Tina, (Ms Gurley) as I have always known her as,!was my daughter first mentor who became family over 25 years ago at Manierre school. My daughter Breonna is now 30 years old. Sending condolences to her family.

I coached Tina’s basketball team at St. James. She always had a good attitude and a great smile. Seems as though she became a good leader, listener, and was well-respected by many.
