Beloved TOM MEARSTom (Tommy) Mears: What words could describe Him, His character, His integrity His loyalty and faithfulness the love admiration, respect and honor others had of him? If I had to paint a picture with words of Tom I suppose the frame large enough to house it would be extremely difficult to find. His character was as large as he was. Yet a gentler kinder man could hardly be found. He was a giant of a man as much inside as out. Anyone who knew him could tell you that. There was no finer man that I've ever met and In my and many others opinion He was a man to be modeled in some of the most important ways. He was a man who followed Christ in such an honorable way that no one could rightfully ever speak ill of the faith He followed or the God that He knew because of something he done or said. Tommy chose the high road in life, the way up to a better life, not just in the hereafter but in the here and now. He wasn't a rich man in material things but he had more than money could buy in respect, the love of friends, family, peace and contentment. Tommy valued people no matter what wrung of the ladder the world might place you on. He wasn't much interested in getting ahead in a dog eat dog world. He wasn't always looking for greener pastures. No ,Tommy was a simple man in his ways but highly intelligent. He could add figures together quicker than most people could enter them in a calculator. He had a memory like an elephant for many facts and things many of which only he knew why (LOL) . He was a like an encyclopedia when it came to remembering the titles and words to old movies and songs (some of which had crazy titles and words like â??COWS WITH GUNSâ? !). He had great sense of humor and knew how to enjoy life without a lot of the trappings. He was one of a kind as we all are. He was as precious as they come and worthy of much more accolades than he ever received in this life I'm sure. He took a few years out just to help teach in one of our Christian schools, and he worked in the Sunday school department and nursery for years along with his wife Dianne besides working with the finances (which he did faithfully for over 40 years. Kids loved him and as large as he was they weren't the least bit intimidated or fearful of him. They'd run and crawl up his legs for a quick ride or a flip in the air which he loved as much as they did. Or maybe they'd push the bump he had on his head before he had it removed so they could hear him beep like a horn. Tommy was definitely one of a kind.. the good kind! He chose to be that kind of person with the help of the Lord. He was always like a ray of sunshine. He was quiet but had much to say that was well worth listening to. There were many times I looked to him for wise counsel and confirmation in things and sometimes I'd just go into his room at the church to spend some time with a man I knew as my friend and one who heard from the Lord, who always had my back, encouraged me and believed in me and would stand with me in faith â??God can do anything pastor.â? In all the years I knew him I never one time heard him speak ill of anyone complain about anything , criticize or find fault and He always talked faith: â??God can do anything pastor.â? Tom was one you could always count on, faithful, trustworthy, and dependable. I've told him numerous times through the years how much I appreciated him as a friend but I'm sure it was not nearly enough and I've thanked the Lord for him in my prayers often through the years and I will continue to so. He wasn't perfect I'm sure but his admirable qualities were so large they towered over less important things. I will always miss him and count it one of the highest honors of life to have had him in my life as a friend. He was one of those friends who sticks closer than a brother. He's a man I looked up to and always will. But I'm sure if I asked him today how ya doin Tommy as I often did he'd answer as He'd say 'PEACHY"! -Pastor Jack
