Van Richard Garrett's Obituary
Van Garrett, 64, of Lovington, IL passed away from complications following a double-lung transplant on November 10, 2018 at Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago, IL.
Visitation will be at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur, IL on Thursday, November 15, from 5-7 PM, with funeral services on November 16, at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Hewitt Cemetery, Lovington.
Van was born August 25, 1954 in Fairfield, IL, the son of Doris and Charles Garrett. He married Judy South on October 16, 1971 in Decatur, IL. She survives him.
Surviving are his sons: Marty (Anna) Garrett of Seattle, WA, Andrew (Danielle) Garrett of Decatur, IL and Danny (Nicole) Garrett of Lovington, IL; five grandchildren: Alena Garrett, Owen Garrett, Meriem Garrett, Nolen Garrett, and Emma Garrett; brothers Rick Garrett of Geff, IL, and Charles (Shelley) Garrett of Decatur, IL; sister Vicki (Dean) Creek of Decatur, IL. He is also survived by stepfather Lewis Caldwell of Decatur, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Van was employed by Interstate Brands Corporation in Decatur, IL for 32 years, serving as Business Agent for Local 316 the last few years of his career. He also worked for himself doing residential and commercial remodeling and maintenance for the past 46 years. Van never knew a stranger and was always first in line to lend a hand to anyone in need. Following his death, Van was an organ donor.
Van’s greatest joy was his family. He loved them endlessly without limits or expectations. Van also enjoyed the outdoors, landscaping, camping, boating, fishing, four-wheeling, and scuba diving. Van was a member of Lampstand Church in Decatur, IL.
