Victoria Louise Grider's Obituary
Victoria Louise Grider, age 85, of Marion, and formerly of Decatur, went to be with the LORD at 11:54 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2003; at home, surrounded by her family.
Victoria was born, May 30, 1918, in Paxton, IL the daughter of Omar and Minnie Estell Sloop Fields.
She was united in marriage to Charles Dewitt Grider, January 9, 1937, in Paxton, IL. Together they were blessed with sixty-three years of marriage until his death came on February 12, 2000.
In her early working career she was a machine operator making bombs during WW II at Hudii-Hershey in Decatur, IL. She later became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Decatur Memorial Hospital for twenty years and retired in 1983.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur until her move to Marion to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bob Solomon in 2001. At that time she joined the Energy Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Parish Park Baptist Church in Marion. She was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose and Ladies of the Elks in Decatur.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who cared for all of her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy L. Solomon, of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Julie Grider of Decatur; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Frances and William Snead of Decatur and Lorene Harrison of Oroville, CA; five grandchildren, Lourie Grider Rhode and husband, Mike, Brian Grider and wife, Mary, Brad Solomon and wife, Kathy, Jeff Solomon and wife, Kimbra, Jennifer Solomon Gatton and husband, Wes; thirteen great grandchildren, Danielle Radley, Ian Rhode, Aaron Rhode, William Grider, Jacob Grider, Amanda Dilbeck and husband, Zac, Matthew Solomon, Ashlee Solomon, Derek Solomon, Dustin Solomon, Dalton Gattom, Brandon Gatton and Jacob Gatton and one great great-grandson, Johnathan Radley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Dewitt Grider; son-in-law, Bob Solomon, June 27, 2003; one sister, Doris Crow; six brothers, Milford Wesley, Clarence, Alva, Henry, Forrest and Raymond Fields.
The funeral for Victoria L. Grider will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur, with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Boiling Springs Cemetery in Decatur.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2003, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, and from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2003 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe, Decatur, IL 62526.
