Viola Hill's Obituary
Viola Fern Hill, 96, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, in Symphony of Decatur.
Viola born May 11, 1919, in Decatur the daughter of Rollie and Mary Jane (Lippert) Finley. She married the love of her life, Wesley Hill, on Jan. 16, 1949, in Decatur. They celebrated 37 years of marriage before his death in 1986.
At the age of six, she began attending church, passing out hymnals for worship. Her faith remained a cornerstone for the rest of her life.
She worked at Kmart and retired from the Dove Inc. Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in 1992, a job she began at age 71 when she started that new career and her adventures with computers. She was a past president of the Macon County Chapter of AARP; a past president of Daughsis, a social group which supported residents of the Eastern Star Home in Macon; and a long-time member of Taking Pounds Off Sensibly (TOPS). She attended Second Church of God.
She enjoyed family and friends, music, reading, dancing and life.
Surviving are her step-son, Robert Lee (Sherry) Hill of Irvine, CA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Annetta Finley and Bruce Finley; and many special friends, including the Mannlein family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Hill, parents, a step-granddaughter, two brothers and four sisters.
Services to celebrate Viola’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery near Ramsey, IL. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Society.
