Violet L Wells' Obituary
Violet Laura Allphin Wells, 83, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in her home.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Graceland Cemetery with the Rev. Wray Offermann of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church officiating. A private family visitation will precede the service. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in incharge of arrangements.
Violet was born in Clay County on April 17, 1928, daughter of Reuben and Esta Crain Allphin. She and her sister Vera sang together as children and young women, and Violet was a self-taught artist and musician who created oil paintings and quilts and played the guitar and keyboard by ear. She worked at various jobs from a young age, and was a stay-at-home mom to her son and daughter. She was a Cub Scout leader for her son and Girl Scout leader for her daughter, served as room mother and volunteered at her children’s schools. She had a great love of animals, which she passed on to her children, and loved and cared for her pets with tenderness.
She married William L. Wells on Nov. 9, 1946 in Clay County and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 2010.
Violet is survived by her son, Lester of Oreana; daughter Valerie and husband Bill Wilson of Decatur; nephew Keith Johnson, his wife Pam and daughter Ryann, whom she thought of as a grandchild, all of Red Oak, Texas; nephew Harley Bonham and his family in Flora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and a brother. Another sister died in infancy. Thanks to her faith and ours, we know she’s been reunited with them in heaven.
The family would like to thank Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice, especially Diane, for their care of our mother during the last months of her life. You were a great comfort to her.
