Virgil J. Ellegood's Obituary
Virgil J. Ellegood Jr., 90, of Decatur, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Hickory Point Christian Village in Forsyth.
Virgil was born March 15, 1924 in Decatur, IL, the son of Virgil and Lala (Ryder) Ellegood Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Virgil was a printer at the Decatur Herald & Review for 40 years. He loved woodworking in his spare time. He married Phyllis Webb on December 5, 1943 in Decatur. They shared 71 wonderful years together.
Virgil leaves behind his wife, Phyllis; son, Glenn “Toby” (Valerie) Ellegood of Decatur; daughter, Joyce Kellogg of Maroa, IL; brother, Bill (Laverne) Ellegood of Cape Coral, FL; daughter-in-law, Pam Kelly of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Julie Rambo; Matthew (Stacey) Ellegood; Sara Ellegood; Monica Ellegood; great-grandchildren, Lauren Rambo; Devon Bramhall; Hannah Rambo; Nathaniel Ellegood; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Ellegood; and two sisters.
A graveside service to celebrate Virgil’s life will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 in Harristown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Virgil may be made to the Homeward Bound Pet Shelter.
