Walter William Baird's Obituary
Taylorville- Walter William “Bill” Baird, 85, of Taylorville, passed away on October 4, 2025.
Bill was born on August 3, 1940, in Taylorville, IL, the son of Roy Eldon and Mildred Elizabeth (Crocker) Baird. A U.S. Air Force veteran, a licensed private pilot, and member of the Civil Air Patrol, Bill worked as an insurance salesman for Shelter Insurance for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge 1516 and Morrisonville Masonic Lodge 681. He married Jane Traughber on October 23, 1957, in Gainseville, TX.
Bill is survived by his wife Jane and children, Bonnie (David )Hoffert of Avon, IN, Jeffery (Susan) Baird of Taylorville, and Janis Baird of Taylorville; Daughter-in-law, Kayla Baird of Morrisonville; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; sister Margaret Schmidbauer of AR, and brother John (Shirley) Baird of CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and son James.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Taylorville Moose Lodge. Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Taylorville Moose Lodge.
