Walter F. Burger Jr.'s Obituary
Decatur – Walter F. Burger, Jr, 98, of Decatur, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022.
Walter was born August 24, 1924, in Salisbury, MO, the son of Walter F. and Helena (Isert) Burger, Sr. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII and member of Sts. James and Patrick parish, Walter practiced law in Decatur and Cerro Gordo for 60 years. He was also a member of the Decatur Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and The Country Club of Decatur. He married Rose Kroboth on June 28, 1952, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Decatur, IL. Walter was a very dedicated person. He was especially dedicated to his family, faith, the law, and of course golf (he had four holes in one). Not to mention, he was a fierce bridge player having more grand slams than Babe Ruth.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Decatur, the love of his life; children: Rosemary (Vaughn) Erickson of Carlinville, Walter (Vicki) Burger, III, of Sugar Land, TX, Richard (Anastasia) Burger of San Diego, CA, Kathryn Lowry of San Diego, CA, and Michael (Amy) Burger of Kirkwood, MO; grandchildren: Walter (Kelsey) Burger, IV, Kevin Erickson, Jacob (Lauren) Lowry, Nicholas Lowry, Stephanie (Andrew) Snyder, Michael Lowry, Caitlyn Burger, Laura Burger, Charlotte Burger, and Chloe Burger; great grandchildren: Temperance, Emmersyn, Seeley, Sadie, Noah, and one on the way; sister-in-law, Mary Burger, and six nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, son John, brothers Larry and Richard Joseph Burger, grandson Ryan Burger, and nephew Jerry Burger.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 4 to 6 pm at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday, December 12, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
