Wanda Kaye Taylor's Obituary
Wanda Kaye Barbee Taylor, 62 years of age, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Wanda was born January 22, 1954 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Reid and Cautious Barbee. She was the second daughter of seven children from their union. One brother preceded her in death.
Wanda graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1972. She married Thomas Taylor in 1980. They were married for 22 years and they shared two daughters. During her life, she worked with children at Webster Cantrell Hall, Head Start Preschool and later became a homemaker. She loved to bake her famous “Aunt Wanda” sugar cookies and made sure she made enough for all of her friends and family members for every holiday. She was a very selfless person and would do whatever she could to help anyone. Once she knew you, you were her family. She loved her “granangels” and spent the last 12 years playing, helping care for and enjoying them. They were the light of her life.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Lamontrea Taylor, her partner Reggie Monroe, Kelsia, and her husband Charles Palmer. Her sisters Shirley Barbee, Barbara(Robert)Manney, Cheryl Anderson, Gwendolyn(Bruce)Hawkins, Ann(Roger)Tucker, Francene Rawls, Reidia, Andrea, Melinda and Bridget and brothers Cornell Barbee, Robert(Leslie)Barbee, Alvin Barbee Darrell, Butch and Jerome. “Granangels” Isaiah Scott, Malachi Palmer, Laila Scott, Aleiah Palmer and Amiyah Palmer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Those who preceded her in death were her parents Reid and Cautious Barbee, her son Thomas Kamren Taylor and brother James Barbee.
The family would like to thank Decatur Memorial Hospital hospice staff, Dr. Guaglianone and the Cancer Care staff, Heartland Nursing home staff and Moran & Goebel for taking very good care of our loved one. Also to everyone for their thoughts, prayers and kind words during this difficult time.
