Wardell Hardin's Obituary
Decatur – Wardell Hardin departed this life on Monday, September 29, 2014 at his home. He was born in Shuqualak, MS to the union of Jackie (Lockett) and Cleveland Hardin. He was the seventh of eleven children.
Wardell was baptized at the age of 15 at Harrison Grove MBC. He graduated from the Noxabee County, MS school system. At age 24, he joined the U.S. Army (artillery) and completed six years of service in the Korean War.
Wardell was a hard-working man, he worked twenty-four years for Obear-Nester Company until the business closed; afterward at Excelsor Steel Foundry from1979 until his retirement in 1993.
Ordained as a Deacon in June 1976, at New Bethlehem of East St. Louis, IL, under the spiritual leadership of Minister Silas Mosby where Wardell served as an active member for over twenty five years.
He married Classie Johnson in 2001, relocating to Decatur. He loved fishing, gardening and he was an ace repairman. Wardell had a quiet, loving spirit. He loved the Lord and the word of God.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Classie Hardin, a sister Elnora (Charles) Hill of Shuqualak, MS, sister-in-laws Dorothy Johnson, Ozelle Hardin, Charlie Hardin, Frances Hardin, Catherine Davis and Barbara Seales, and one brother-in-law Anthony Taylor, a father to Bernice (Robert) Haynes, Teisha Griffin and Trey Griffin, and special granddaughter Gayle (Willie) Young; and host of grand- and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephew, and cousins. Wardell was preceded in death by both parents and ten of his siblings.

His Home Going Celebration will be at 11am, Saturday, October 4, 2014, at New Life Church of God at 1275 E. Division, in Decatur. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 5 – 7 pm at Moran & Goebel, 2801 N. Monroe Decatur, IL, and final rest will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
