Wayne Clark Gable's Obituary
Wayne Clark Gable, 89 of Sullivan IL, formerly of Decatur IL, passed away, Christmas morning December 25. 2023, with family by his side.
Born August 8,1934 in a Shobonier IL farmhouse, the son of George and Matilda Gable (Schmid). Wayne was the youngest of 8 children on the family farm.
Serving in the Korean War, he was an Army machine gun specialist stationed in Germany.
He married Jo Ann Carroll in 1957 and divorced in 1988. Wayne enjoyed a 35 year career as a truck driver.
Wayne will be fondly remembered as an ornery man who unapologetically spoke his mind on all subjects.
Survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Mark) Ekiss (Decatur IL) and Angela (Michael) Dalsis (Florida). He was Papa to his Granddaughters, Samantha (Ron) Dever and Lauren Dever (St Louis MO) and Great Papa to his Great Grandsons Jake Dever (Wright City MO) and Landon Duke (Moscow Mills MO). His brother Jerry (Phyllis) Gable (Vandalia IL) and sister-in law, Norma Gable (Shobonier IL), also survives along with many nieces and nephews. All left to cherish his memory.
Wayne was proceeded in death by his Parents, Brothers, Orville 'Pete' Gable and Cecil 'Dick' Gable, Sisters, Virginia Wright, Charlotte Fischer, Evelyn Remmert, Ardis Hodson, Niece, Zena Stevenson and Granddaughter, Shannon Dever Vazquez.
A memorial visitation at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Decatur IL will be held on January 19, 2023, at 10AM with service to follow at 11AM.
Burial at Camp Butler, Riverton IL, at a later date.
A special thanks to the amazing nurses and staff at Eastview Terrace for embracing this, sometimes grouchy old man and improving and enriching this last year of his life.
