Wilbur O. Wallace's Obituary
Wilbur “Otis” Wallace, 89, of Decatur, IL, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family.
Otis was born October 15, 1925 in Dover, TN, the son of Newell and Flossie (Powers) Wallace. Otis proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Ruth Standerfer on September 24, 1954 in Decatur, IL. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Otis is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, John, David, and Phillip Wallace all of Decatur; daughter, Lisa Nolan and husband Mike Nolan of Petersburg, IL; brother, Leon Wallace of Granite City, IL; sister, Evon Whitford of Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Tammy, James, Jeremy, David Lee, Harley, Ashley, Ryan, Kasey, Waylon Wallace, Jennifer, and Leslie; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Edward Wallace; and sisters, Ophie Tift and Linda Dowdy.
Otis was the kind of man who could walk into a room and instantly light it up with his remarkable stories. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. He regularly visited with his friends at McDonald’s for a good cup of coffee and tell a tall tale. Otis was a life-long member of Rock Springs Church of God. He loved cooking BBQ and spending time with his family and friends.
Services to celebrate Otis’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Otis may be made out to the family.
