Wilfred A. Kapper's Obituary
Wilfred A. Kapper, 95, of Decatur, formerly of Niantic, passed away Wednesday morning, April 26, 2017, at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Wilfred was born January 18, 1922, in Mt. Pulaski, to Aloysius Edward and Clara Mary (Blank) Kapper. He proudly served in the United States Army. Wilfred was a lifelong farmer in the Niantic and Illiopolis area. He married Teresa Lorraine Rakers on December 1, 1945 in Decatur, IL. She passed away January 18, 2012. Wilfred was a member of American Legion Post 508 and VFW Post 10302. He was very active in the catholic community, Good Samaritan Inn and enjoyed assisting with bingo.
He is survived by his 10 children, Rita (Carl) Fieldbinder of Rochester, IL, Bob (Jackie) Kapper of Illiopolis, Tom (Deb) Kapper of Forsyth, Mike Kapper of Illiopolis, Terry (Brenda) Kapper of Decatur, Teresa Kapper of Decatur, Susan (Mike) Hawkins of Manchester, TN, Patty (Don) Rogers of Illiopolis, Joan Kapper of Mt. Auburn and Paula (Kevin) Carey of Mt. Auburn; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete (Doris) Kapper of Forsyth and Virgil Kapper of Decatur; one sister, Isabelle Blakeman of Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Teresa; one daughter, Sharon Grossman; and two sisters, Matilda Rennier and Teresa Schroll.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2017, at Resurrection Parish with Father Raphael Paul De Moreno, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Illiopolis where full military honors will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to Wounded Warriors or New Life Pregnancy Center.
