William A. Carter's Obituary
William A. Carter, Jr. (Bill), 70, of Decatur passed away on September 3, 2014 in Indian Trail, NC, with his loving family and nurse at his side.
William (Bill) was born on December 5, 1943, the son of William A. Carter, Sr. (Bob), Sr. and Bernice L. (Simmons) Carter. He married the love of his life, Barbara (Stanley) Carter on October 14, 1966 in New Bern, NC.
William served his country in the United States Marine Corps, as a military police officer, during the Vietnam War conflict, and retired from A.E. Staley manufacturing company in Decatur, IL. William served the John C. Ellis Lodge No. 17 as Worshipful Master and St. Mary’s Chapter No. 65, Order of Eastern Star as Past Patron.
William is survived by his “one and only” daughter, Serena (Carter) Johnson (Maxie Johnson, Jr.) of Indian Trail, NC; granddaughter, Rhakya Monique Johnson and grandson, Maxie “M.J.” Johnson, III. Also surviving are his sister, Patsy (Carter) Walker and niece, Serena Michelle Carter both of Chicago, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his wife, parents, and sister, Vanessa Carter.
Homegoing Celebration for William A. Carter, Jr. (Bill) will be 10 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Jasper Street Church of Christ. Visitation will be one hour before service in the church. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
