A great guy. I never would have survived my first year of teaching at Durfee without his mentoring and humor. I know the family will have many fond memories. Judy Thistlethwaite
I was sorry to learn of Bill's death, but was so glad that he and BA were able to attend the Dennis teacher's luncheon in July. I was also glad to see Bill and Kathleen at a Decatur Municipal Band concert in August. I regret that Paul and I cannot attend Bill's memorial service due to being at Paul's three-day Sertoma Convention in Southern Indiana. All of Bill's family will be in our thoughts and prayers.Verlyn and Paul Rosenberger
As superintendent of the DPS I had the pleasure of working with Bill and visited his building many times. After every visit there I returned to my office knowing the students relying on his caring and leadership were in the best of hands. It was an honor to know him. He will be remembered with good thoughts.Walt Warfield
I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Also being an elementary principal in the Decatur Elementary Schools, I have many memories of trips, conferences, etc. in which we participated. I very much enjoyed being with Bill. I especially enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor. Wife Mary and I moved from our home for 47 years on West Ash. We moved June, 2014 to Whitehall, Pennsylvania. We live in Fellowship Community – an assisted living facility. We are in the independent living section of the complex and have our own home. Mary is in her 4th year with Alzheimers Disease. We knew we were going to need help soon, so we got the move done while we could still manage it. One daughter and her husband live just 5 miles from us, so that is the reason we picked Pennsylvania. The other daughter lives in Virginia, so we are 500 miles closer to her. Our sympathy goes out to the entire family. Bill will be missed by many.Harold K. and Mary E. Walton
I went to Eldorado School from 1965 through 1972. I remember Mr Cogan with great fondness and admiration. Thoughts and prayers to all of you.Janet Albers MD SIU Springfield, IL
Bill was my first public school principal. He was an outstanding mentor. I was fortunate to have his guidance during my early years as an educator. I have many fond memories working under his direction as a teacher at Dennis School in Decatur from 1986-1988 and again, for a short time as a traveling resource specialist in the mid '90s. He was respected greatly and will be missed. Sending prayers and sympathies for his loved ones.
