William Alfred Hexum's Obituary
William Alfred "Bill" Hexum, 90, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in the Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be 10:30 am Friday, June 30, 2006 at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Rev. Richard Weltin officiating. The family will receive friends at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home from 9 am to 10 am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Bill was born on October 5, 1915 in Decatur, the son of Christian Alfred and Maude Iona Tucker Hexum. He worked as a heat treater at Grigoleit before retiring in 1980. Bill was the 3 time President of the United Cork, Tile, Rubber and Linoleum Workers Union #270, and Regional Representative of the same union. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. During his service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal WWII, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. Bill married Erna J. Pusch on March 17, 1949 in Heidelberg, Germany.
Surviving is his wife, Erna of Decatur; son, Alfred H. Hexum of Decatur; brother, Albert F. wife, Geneva Hexum of Decatur; many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia and one brother, Floyd.
