William R. "Lee" Maurer's Obituary
William R. “Lee” Maurer, 76, of Decatur, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Lee was born at home July 31, 1939, in Hickory Point Township in Macon County, IL, the son of George Edward and Leoda Violet (Houser) Maurer Sr. Lee married Brenda Kay Baker on September 3, 2011, at the VFW Post #99 in Decatur, IL.
Lee lived in Mt. Zion and attended Mt. Zion School. He proudly served for his country in the United States Army for 17 ½ years, and spent time in Germany and Vietnam. He was in the 1st of the 7th Cavalry Headquarters Company and the Cavalry G Troop in Vietnam. He later worked maintenance and security for various companies around Decatur. In his spare time, Lee enjoyed woodworking, camping, watching John Wayne movies and cartoons.
Lee was a member of the VFW Post #99 in Decatur, DAV, the Cero Gordo American Legion, the
Honor Guard, and Salem Baptist Church in Decatur.
Lee leaves behind his wife, Brenda; daughters, Rhonda Freeman of Charlotte, NC; Chris Clifton of Mt. Auburn, IL; stepdaughters, Aubrey (Trent) Bowman of Decatur, IL; Carley Cochran of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Dawson Keeling, Erick Keeling, Corporal Karen Clifton, Cindy Miller, Katie Maple, Cheri Wright, Shawn Hines, Jake Hines, Timothy Strisko, Danny Strisko, Andrew Strisko; and great-grandchildren, Corbin, Alyssa, Autumn, Jayden, Sean, Alana, Kylan, Makayla, Katelynn, Hailie, Joseph, Christian, and Malea.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three grandchildren.
Services to celebrate Lee’s life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park.
