William A. Mahler's Obituary
William Alfred Mahler, 90, of Forsyth, Illinois, passed away April 4, 2023, at Hickory Point Christian Village.
Bill was born in Maywood, Illinois, on July 7, 1932, the son of William and Alice (Esch) Mahler. He was active and resourceful during his time growing up on a horse farm. He spent summers working on his uncle’s dairy farm in Woodstock, Illinois as well as his father’s gas stations. He had a natural talent for building things, which led him in later years to become the successful owner of Mahler Home Center in Sullivan, Illinois. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing and hunting. He was an avid train enthusiast whose model trains were the envy of his many nieces and nephews. He married Lucille Sansone in Riverside, Illinois, on September 15, 1956. He was a wonderful husband, and they led a fulfilling life for the nearly 67 years that they were together. He will be remembered for his funny, dry sense of humor and his enjoyment of life.
Bill is survived by his wife Lucille, his sister Barbara (Jim) Vogel of New York, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Alice (Don) Ashley and Anne (Tom) Williamson.
Visitation for Bill will be from 1pm to 2pm on Tuesday, April 11, at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 2pm. Moran and Goebel will provide cremation services at a later date, and inurnment in the Graceland Cemetery Star of Hope Mausoleum will follow the cremation. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Decatur. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.moranandgoebel.com.
