William Samuel Rogers' Obituary
Decatur – William Samuel Rogers, Sr., was a man of great faith and one whose words and God fearing spirit ministered to all those around him. He was born in Decatur, IL on December 1, 1930 and went to “be with his Heavenly Father” on Friday, May 29, 2015. While on this Earth, he was the devoted husband of Doris Jean Harvey until her death in 1958. He then pledged his eternal love to Predency Taylor and they married in 1960. While parenting his and Predency’s seven children, he was also the tireless and compassionate spiritual father of an entire community.
William lived a full and rich life. After serving in the United States Army, during the Korean War, he was a dedicated foundry employee of Wagner’s Casting Company. From which, he retired after 30 years of loyal service. William demonstrated his expertise as a craftsman and artist by training Decatur’s at risk youth as a Drill Team Master in the 1950’s and by designing advertising signage and murals for churches and businesses across central Illinois.
As a dedicated servant of God, William was called to the ministry in 1959 and he began his spiritual service as the Financial Secretary at First Church, COGIC, where he was ordained an Elder. After which, in 1971, he accepted the call to serve as Assistant Pastor of Community Temple, COGIC. It was on June 1, 1985 when God called William to shepherd His flock. Pastor William S. Rogers Sr. then established Truth Pentecostal Temple, where he taught the word of God and lead souls to Christ. In 1991, Eld. Rogers Sr. relinquished his authority upon his son William Jr and began to serve faithfully as Senior Adviser at Kingdom Come Ministries where he was known as “Papa” to all Kingdom Come Churches.
Elder William S. Rogers, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Dr. Olivia Taylor of Albany, GA; Clifford Taylor of Atlanta, GA; Thomas Taylor of Decatur, IL; Brian Rogers of Decatur, IL; Duane Rogers of Decatur, IL; Apostle William S.
