William R Schmidt's Obituary
William R. “Bill” Schmidt, 72, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday November 18, 2015, in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Bill was born December 2, 1942, the son of Raymond M. and Helen L. (Simon) Schmidt. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Decatur. Bill retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 30 years of service. When Bill was younger, he loved drag racing in his 1966 Chevelle. As he became older, Bill enjoyed being outdoors landscaping and mowing grass on his riding lawnmower. He also loved playing with his grandchildren and his grand-dog, Kodiak.
Bill leaves behind his daughters, Michelle (Jon) Sautelet of Decatur, IL; Teresa (Shane) Abel of Kansas City, MO; Susan (Rusty) Broadwater of Evansville, IN; sisters, Jeanne (Bill) Letner of Decatur, IL; Jacquelyn (Don) Miller of Decatur, IL; and eight grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Bill’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, 725 E. Clay Street, Decatur, IL, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant . Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Bill may be made to St. James Catholic Church.
