Willie Mae Blair's Obituary
Willie Mae Blair, 87, of Decatur, departed this life at 10 am Friday, June 24, 2011 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Willie Mae was born February 4, 1924 in Laurel, MS, to the union of the late William and Lettie Jones Brooks. The family moved to St. Louis, MO, during the late 1920’s and later moved to Decatur in the late 1940’s where she met and married Walter Blair on My 10, 1950.
She united with Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor G.W. Washington, currently pastured by Rev. Jimmy D. Waddell. She was a very active and faithful member where she worked diligently in the kitchen was an active Sunday school member, and she worked throughout the church in various auxiliaries, groups, and committees until her health began to fail.
Left to cherish fond memories is her sister, Lettie Roberts Fred of St. Louis, MO; brother, James Brooks Rose of Murphysboro, IL; brother-in-law, Milo Hamilton, Sr. of St. Louis, MO; Gladys Williams of St. Louis, MO, was like a special sister; Lewis and Shirley Jackson of Moweaqua who were like the son and daughter she never had; Anna D. Woods and her three daughters who were special neighbors; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Elizabeth Hamilton of St. Louis, MO, Anna Brooks Robert of Detroit, MI; brother, John Brooks Hazel of Detroit, MI.
Homegoing services will be 11 am, Thursday, June 30, 2011 in Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church; visitation will be one hour prior to the service with burial to follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
