Willie Mae Moore's Obituary
Willie Mae Moore, 68, of Decatur and Matteson, IL passed away early morning May 3, 2008 in Decatur, IL.
Known as “Mae” to family and close friends, she was born March 25, 1940 in Hinds Co, MS near Utica. She was the second of four daughters of Alene Jacobs Higgins and Percy Higgins and grew up in a close-knit community of family and friends. She was always known for her quiet, gentle nature and biting wit.
After graduation from Utica Institute and Utica Jr. College, she went on to obtain her degree in Elementary Education from Jackson State University in 1960. She took a teaching position in Rolling Fork, MS and married Norman Moore of Utica the following year. They relocated to Chicago, IL in 1962 and had one daughter, Renata Charissa Moore. In Chicago, she taught at Frances Parkman and in 1969 transferred to John M. Smyth where she remained until her retirement in 1998.
She was preceded in death by her father, Percy Higgins. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Renata Dr. David Jones Moore of Forsyth, IL; mother, Alene Higgins of Utica, MS; sisters Christein Delano Spencer of Chicago, IL, Percy Jean Schruby of Los Angeles, CA, and Gwendolyn Robinson of Utica, MS; grandchildren: Leia and Cameron Jones; 9 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephew.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Holy Family Church in Jackson, MS. Burial is planned for Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Orland Park, IL.
