Woodrow Anthony Daniel Stephens, 91, of Decatur, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be 11 A.M. Monday September 22, 2003 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Mr. Stephens was born on August 25, 1912 in Sigel, IL; the son of Roscoe and Clara Tegankamp Stephens. Mr. Stephens retired from Wilbert Vault Co. in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and American Legion Castle Williams Post #105. He married Ada Mae Bennett on Feb. 25, 1941 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Champaign. They were married 51 years and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Feb. 25, 1991. Mr. Stephens was an Army veteran of WWII and served with the "Screaming Eagles" of the 101st Airborne Division. He fought in Normandy and in the Battle of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Bronze Star and Silver Star for valor and duty behind enemy lines. He was one of six brothers who served during World War II.
Surviving are his children: Bill Stephens and wife Laurie of Las Vegas, NV; Karen Reiter and husband Bill, James Stephens, and Gary Stephens and wife Sherrie all of Decatur; sisters: Annabelle Kelnstin of Irving, TX; Lucille Cacaus of Effingham; brothers: Dan Stephens, and Robert Stephens and wife Kay all of Effingham; sister-in-law, Mary Stephens of Effingham; grandchildren: Jennifer Rich, John Resch, Tony Reiter, Krista Reiter, Sarah Reiter, Heather Stephens, Amanda Stephens, and Brenna Wilhite; great grandsons: Jeffrey and Josh Wilhite; great granddaughter, Grace Rich; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 3 brothers: Richard, Charles and Roscoe Jr.
Woodrow was a loving and devoted father whose smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
