Thank you, Ron. We all have such great memories of our parents in the Bridgeport community.
Thank you, Julie.
Dear Julie,Thank you so much for the kind words and wonderful memories. Yes, my grandma was a small but mighty lady! She'd be working in the fields during haying season with the rest of the men and use a hook to move 80 pound bales of hay. Birchwood was a major part of my entire life, and my children loved visiting Grandma and Grandpa at the farm. I hope to introduce my grandchildren to the great Northwoods soon, too.Marilyn Dawson
I am sorry to hear that Aldona passed away and I am sending my condolences to all of you even though we have never met. I thought you would like to hear how I knew of Aldona.I grew up in Birchwood. In fact, our farm bordered the Vischulis farm. As a small child, Mrs Vischulis (Aldona's mother) would walk through the woods to our house on a monthly basis to call Aldona from our phone. At the time she didn't have a phone. Mrs Vischulis was very elderly at the time, especially in the eyes of a 10 year old child, she was a very small woman with white hair like Aldona's and walked with a cane. She would walk a good little distance through the woods and would climb through a fence and appear in our yard. She always brought us eggs, she had banty hens and they laid small eggs that were a novelty for us children. She would use the phone, at that time Aldona was in Chicago, and then walk back to her house through the woods, My mom would offer her a ride but she never accepted. She was a memorable part of my childhood. I don't think that I ever met Aldona but she comes from very strong stock. I'm sorry to hear of her passing. I no longer live in Birchwood, but think of her often.Julie Zemaitis Fritz
