Aldona L. Lucas' Obituary
Decatur – Aldona Lillian (Vischulis) Lucas passed on to eternal life on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Fair Havens Christian Home.
She was born in 1917 in Chicago to Andrew and Anna (Chernauskas) Vischulis. Her family moved to Birchwood, Wisconsin, in 1918. Aldona was the salutatorian of her class at Birchwood High School. Later she moved to Chicago and worked for Montgomery Ward, but she returned to Birchwood every summer to assist with the family’s farming work there. She married Martin Lucas in 1948 in Chicago.
Aldona was a very accomplished seamstress and truly enjoyed her craft. She was an avid gardener and a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing ethnic Lithuanian dishes. No one ever left her table hungry, especially not her dogs. She and her husband retired to Birchwood in 1985 and participated in activities at the Birchwood Senior Center. They enjoyed family visits immensely and introduced the grandchildren to life in the great Northwoods. Aldona was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the American Legion Dairus Girannas Post 271 Auxiliary.
Aldona is survived by her daughter Marilyn (J. Michael) Dawson; grandson James Martin (Laura) Dawson; granddaughter Kristie Dawson Danko; great grandchildren Nolan, Katelyn, and Lucas; great nephew Dave (Robin) Schabes; great niece Pam (Habib) Aliabadi; great great nephew Arman; nieces Myrna Morris and Justine Bernard; and nephew Father Tom Lucas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter, special niece Donna Schabes, and her beloved husband, Marty.
