Beatrice Mae Godsey's Obituary
Beatrice Mae Benson Godsey, 93, of Dalton City passed away at 11:55 pm Saturday, January 31, 2009 in her home, with her children at her side.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday February 5, 2009 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Mathais officiating. Visitation will be 6:00- 8:00 pm Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, the Kidney Foundation, or DMH Hospice.
Beatrice was born on May 15, 1915 in Galesville, IL the daughter of Grover A. and Myrtle C. Hannah Benson. She married Richard C. Godsey on November 24, 1938 in Springfield, IL he preceded her in death on September 28, 1988. She worked for Millikin University and Northgate Pet Clinic before retiring. She was a devoted and caring wife to her husband during his lengthy illness and a loving mother of six. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, seamstress work, rummage sales, her many grandchildren, and her special dog, Rags.
Surviving are her sons, Harold E. Skeels of Chesapeake, VA; Gerald L. Godsey and David P. Godsey Kay of Decatur; Richard J. Godsey Mary of Dalton City; daughter, Malia J. Sutherland of Decatur; sister, Betty Funkhouser of Decatur; 28 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Richard C. Godsey, three brothers, one sister, one daughter Barbara Dirck, three grandchildren, and two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Skeels and Lois Godsey.
Dad and mom were loved by the many people they meet and helped over their years together. We are fortunate that mom kept dad’s memory alive for the last 20 years. She is what held us together as family. She will be missed by her children and family but welcomed into the arms of our father.
