Bea was born on Jan 8, 1924 in North Wilkesboro, NC, the daughter of Anderson J. and Queenie Lovette. She graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class and then worked as a mechanic at an ammunitions plant in NC during WWII. Bea then attended and graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Berea College in Berea, KY. She was recruited by the State of Illinois for a supervisor's position in the Dept. of Children and Family Services which was being formed in the early 1950's. She moved to Springfield where she worked for 5 years and was then sent by the State of Illinois to Tulane University in New Orleans where she received her Masters Degree in Social Work. Bea then returned to DCFS and worked as a regional coordinator for 20 additional years. After retiring from DCFS, Bea moved to Decatur and became the Executive Director of Family Services of Decatur, a United Way agency. In that position she supervised a staff of nine who did counseling and adoption services before retiring after nineteen years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Altrusa Women's Sorority, Professional Women's Sorority and two bridge clubs. Bea enjoyed latch-hooking, arts and crafts, cooking and reading. She loved taking care of her granddaughter, Jenny and traveling. She traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Russia, Poland, Ireland, England, Iceland, France and all across the United States.
Bea is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Melton and Grace McGrady and a brother, James Lovette all of North Carolina as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Decatur family: Becky, Emily and Jenny White, as well as the entire staff at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
