Billie Janet Summers' Obituary
Austin, TX – Billie Janet (Smith) Summers, age 73, of Austin, TX, formerly a long-time resident of Assumption, IL, passed away at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center in Austin on April 25, 2015.
Billie Janet was born on March 4, 1942 in Decatur, IL to Bill and Lucille Smith. She graduated from Assumption High School in 1959.
Billie Janet raised four children; Betty Lu, Kelly, Michael and Ramona all around the country before settling back in the Taylorville/Assumption area to be near her mother. Years later, she moved to Austin to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Billie Janet was a devoted and loving mother. She was proud to become “Nana” to her nine grandchildren and “GrandNana” to six great-grandchildren.
Billie Janet was the beloved sister of Karen Keen & her husband Larry of Shelbyville, IL and Kenton Smith & his wife Ginger of Portland, OR; devoted mother of Betty Moon & her husband Gerry of San Antonio, Kelly Smith and her partner Michelle Bynum, Michael Smith & his wife Laura all of Austin and her daughter Ramona of Atlanta; loving Nana of Angel, Shana, Kelsie, Collin, Shannon, Sean, Mary, Bridget and Cassidy and she took much delight in her great grandchildren Liliana, Zachary, Alexandria, Melanie, Cormac and Ayla. Billie Janet was also a very special “Aunt Sissy” to her nephew Todd Keen & his wife Nancy of Denton, TX, niece Dollie Brown & husband Kevin of Taylorville, IL. Billie’s special Austin friends are Helen Hall, Leilani Solberg and Mary Mendez, who always made her laugh and smile.
Billie Janet loved attending church at Bible Baptist Church of Pflugerville, reading the newspaper, bowling and she cherished any chance to spend time with her family. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Billie Janet’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Third floor IMC nurses & patient technicians for their excellent care and assistance.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Friday, May 1, 2015 at Little Prairie Cemetery, Altamont, IL. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice in Billie’s memory.
