Celeste Applegate's Obituary
Decatur- M. Celeste Applegate, 88, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.
Celeste was born December 7, 1926 in E. St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Roy and Julia (Heilig) Sculley. She married Edward R. Applegate on May 7, 1949 at Holy Angels Church in E. St. Louis, Illinois. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Decatur and the American Association of University Women. She will be remembered most for her boundless energy which she directed toward selling real estate for Investment Specialists Realty, volunteering for St. Patrick’s and the DMH Auxiliary Thrift Shop, and playing bridge.
Celeste leaves behind her sister, Delores Soule, of Sun City West, Arizona; children, Mark (Laura) Applegate of Port Orange, Florida, and Julie (Michael) Marsch of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; grandchildren, Andrew Marsch, Heather Applegate, and William Marsch.
Celeste was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Roy Sculley and Julia Heilig Sculley; husband, Edward R. Applegate; brother Joseph Roy Sculley, and sisters Norma Sculley, and Katherine Sculley.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Celeste’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 407 E. Eldorado St. Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette Celebrant. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with a vigil prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church Building Fund or School @ https://ssjpparish.weshareonline.org/.
