Charlotte Anne Long's Obituary
Decatur-Charlotte Anne Long, 82, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 in her home with her family by her side.
Charlotte was born February 12, 1934 in Taylorville, Illinois the daughter of George and Susie (Stewart) Helmers. In her youth she worked at George’s Candy Shop in Taylorville and later became a self-employed tax preparer. She was a member of Saints James & Patrick and loved preparing taxes, horseback riding, camping, spending time with her family, and making scoodles of noodles. Charlotte married William “Bill” Long September 13, 1952. They shared over sixty-four years together.
Charlotte leaves behind her beloved husband Bill of Decatur, children William “Bill” Long of Dawsonville, Georgia, Suzanne (Chuck) Phegley of Clayton, North Carolina, Mona (Jerry) Jones of Altamont, John Long of Dawsonville, Georgia, Theresa (Curtis) Dial of Decatur, Randy Long of Cottageville, South Carolina, Tanya (James) Tucker of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Christopher (Rachel) Long of Decatur, sister Rose Marchand of Carville, Louisiana, nineteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way and many nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George and James Helmers, infant sister Theresa Helmers, daughter-in-law Dar Long, and grandson Jacob Long.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Benjamin Esparaz, Dr. Harold Yoon, the nurses and staff with Cancer Care Specialist of Central Illinois, and DMH Hospice for all of their loving care.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Charlotte’s life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay Street, Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette celebrant. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church or DMH Hospice.
