Don Durbin
My condolences to the family and close friends of 'Uncle Chet'. May the pain of your loss quickly subside through the grace of God and by the knowledge that Chet is most definitely sitting at the foot of God's throne, putting in a good word for all of us.I remember when I was a small child, Uncle Chet seemed so huge to me. But he didn't frighten me like most other large men did, because of his smile and gentle way. I moved away from Illinois early in life and lost contact with Uncle Chet. However, on a recent trip back I believe it was in 2000 during a get together at Don & Jean's house in Divernon, I was sitting on the couch in the family room and I saw this small man with a red nose and the whitest hair approaching me. Uncle Chet must have seen the puzzled look on my face and he reached out his hand to shake mine and said, "You don't know who I am. I'm Chet." We had a good visit and he made me feel like we had been in touch all those years, almost 40, since I had seen him last. He was a jewel to our family and will be greatly missed. I hope to meet him again someday in heaven where I'm sure he'll greet me with "Hi, you don't know who I am. I'm Chet" and then "Welcome"! Laguna Woods, CA US
