Clarence I. Flemming's Obituary
Decatur-Clarence I. Flemming, 94, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
Clarence was born August 27, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan the first of two children to Anthony and Magdalene (Darga) Flemming. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended Wayne State University in Detroit. Clarence was previously employed with General Motors in Detroit and with York-Borg Warner in Decatur where he served as Vice-President and Plant Manager retiring in 1987 after thirty-four years of service. He was a former member of the Kiwanis, York-Borg Warner Golf Club, South Side Country Club, Rotary Club of Decatur, the Decatur Club, and he was a licensed pilot. Clarence also belonged to all of the Catholic churches in Decatur at one time or another. He married Theresa Kalinowski on May 13, 1943.
Clarence leaves behind his children Timothy and Kathryn Flemming of Davenport, Iowa, Regan and Cathy Flemming of St. Augustine, Florida, Claudia and John Madding of Decatur, Pamela and James Riebock of Decatur, Randy and Bonnie Flemming of Forsyth, and Jodi and Allen Girard of Manteno, Illinois, twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Clarence is reunited in Heaven with his parents, wife Theresa, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and one sister.
The family wishes to thank Harbor Light Hospice, Hickory Point Christian Village, Dr. John Newlin and Nurse Betty, St. Mary’s Hospital, and Emma Harris friend and caregiver, for all of their excellent care.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Clarence’s life will be 12 noon Friday, March 20, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2400 S. Franklin St. Decatur, Illinois, with the Very Rev. Joseph Molloy and Rev. John Burnette Celebrants. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. prior to the Mass at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Holy Family, St. James, St. Patrick, or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Churches.
