Elizabeth "Betsy" Empen's Obituary
Elizabeth “Betsy” Ellen Empen, 79, of Forsyth, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Betsy was born March 20, 1940, in Charlottesville, Virginia to Karl R. and Dorothy M. (Peirce) Wallace. She married Joseph Anthony Empen on September 8, 1962 in Urbana, IL. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the local Parkinson’s Support Group. Her activities that she enjoyed included PEO BC Chapter, Millikin Homestead where she loved The Bell Pull, Tri Delta Alumni Society, Junior Welfare, Girl Scouts, PTA especially at Parsons School where she loved helping landscape the outside area of the school. Betsy was also one of the founding members of the Sunday morning SWEAT Group.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe; her three daughters, Kathy (Dale Moller) Empen, Julie Penhallegon and Andrea (Jim) Ohl; her seven grandchildren that gave her so much joy, Olivia Moller, Will, Mason and Addison Penhallegon, Jason, Tyler and Lindsey Ohl; and her brother, Peter (Kathryn) Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Margit Gerow.
A private family memorial mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Michael J.
