Evan H. Johnson's Obituary
Decatur-Evan H. Johnson, 72, of Decatur, passed away, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
Evan was born March 6, 1943 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Guy H. and Martha C. (Medley) Johnson. He graduated from Hutsonville High School. He earned his degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He then earned his law degree from the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Evan was an attorney and partner with Erickson, Davis, Murphy, Johnson, and Walsh Ltd. with over forty-one years of service. He was a member of the Decatur Bar Association, Illinois College of Trial Lawyers, served as an elder at Woodland Chapel, and served on the board of the Country Club of Decatur. His passion in life was spending time with his family and practicing law. He enjoyed golfing, fishing at his pond, baking, cooking, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, IU Hoosier basketball, and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Evan married Dianne Corell in 1965.
Evan leaves behind his wife Dianne, children Kimberly McGhiey (Mark), Amy Dow (Dana), and Matthew Johnson (Anne), grandchildren Jena Dow, Morgan McGhiey, Evanne McGhiey, Ian McGhiey, Olivia Dow, Charlotte Johnson, and Cole Johnson, mother Martha, and brother Guy L. Johnson (Barb).
Evan was preceded in death by his father Guy H. Johnson.
Services to celebrate Evan’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Moran &
Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Make-A-Wish Illinois, 1 W Old State Capitol Plaza #721, Springfield, IL 62701 or to the general scholarship fund at Hutsonville High School, 500 W Clover St, Hutsonville, IL 62433.
