Florence G. Slaw's Obituary
Florence G. Slaw, 78, of Decatur, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Florence was born February 23, 1930, in Brownsville, TN, the daughter of Ellis and Florence Lake Green, Sr. A member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Florence worked as an administrative assistant for the Offices of Rehabilitation Services, State of Illinois until her retirement in December of 2002 after 48 years of service. She married Norman L. Slaw, Sr. on May 28, 1959 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on August 18, 2008.
Surviving are her children: son, Norman “Bunky” Slaw, Jr. of Decatur; daughters: Sue Thompson of Decatur, Gwen Thompson of Chicago and Janis “Cubby” David Milner of Windsor, CT; grandchildren: Tera Manns of Chicago, Makeesha Holley and Shawna McDaniel of Mattoon; great granddaughter, Nia Muhammad of Chicago; sisters: Mary Jacobs of Philadelphia, PA and Mabel Ollie Kennedy of Decatur; brother, Melvin Green of Logansville, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Ellis Green, Jr., Henry Green, Ted Green and Sammy Green; sister, Minnie Ewing.
Homegoing Celebration will be 12 pm Friday, September 26, 2008 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; Rev. Dr. C.D. Stuart eulogist. Visitation will be one hour before the service with burial in Graceland Cemetery.
