George Timothy "Tim" Schmidt's Obituary
George Timothy (Tim) Schmidt, aged 73, passed away on October 26, 2024, at his home in Taylorville, IL. Born on September 10, 1951, Tim lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a passion for learning, and a notable career.
Tim graduated from Stephan Decatur High School and shortly thereafter joined the Army Reserves, where he served for six years. Professionally, Tim began his career at AE Staley Company on September 3, 1975. He excelled as a Wet Mill maintenance supervisor before pioneering the role of Plant Coordinator for Tate & Lyle, a position he held until his retirement on June 28, 2013. His innovative approaches and steadfast work ethic left a lasting impact on the company.
Tim was deeply passionate about his hobbies. He was an avid reader and music listener, enjoyed traveling to historic battlefields, and had a profound appreciation for the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Tim was also a culinary enthusiast, loving nothing more than cooking, baking, and exploring new restaurants. His frequent visits to New Orleans and his devotion to the St. Louis Cardinals were among his favorite pastimes.
Tim was a beloved family man, survived by his daughter Heather Hess, son-in-law David Hess, son Peyton Schmidt, granddaughter Chelsea Hess, grandson Cameron Hess, sister Debra Hoaglin, brother-in-law Richard Hoaglin, brother Fred Schmidt, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geraldine Schmidt.
Tim Schmidt will be remembered not only for his smart and witty personality but also for his independence and the passionate love he held for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Friday November 8th at Moran and Goebel, Decatur, IL. A celebration of life will follow at 4:00 pm in Taylorville, IL at 6 Wildwood Dr to share your favorite moments of Tim with food and beverages.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Prostate Cancer Foundation.
