James J. Schimanski's Obituary
James J. “Jim” Schimanski, 57, of Decatur, died Monday, January 26, 2009.
Jim was born July 31, 1951, in Decatur, the son of Leo and Katherine Russell Schimanski. He was a graduate of St. Teresa High School, Lewis University, and had a master’s degree in Advertising from Northwestern University.
He worked as an account manager for several advertising agencies in Chicago. Ten years ago he moved back to Decatur and worked as a marketing communications specialist for Illinois Power and Dynegy. In recent years he worked in public affairs for the Macon County Health Department and for Addus HealthCare.
Jim was a member of Saints James and Patrick Catholic Church, and had memberships in the American Marketing Association, and the Decatur Advertising Club.
Jim was the editor of his high school and college newspapers, and continued his enjoyment for reporting by chronicling many family and friends events. His always witty and humorous observations will be missed.
Surviving is his sister, Kay Schimanski of Naperville; 2 aunts, Florence Boland and Mary Pfile; many cousins and loyal friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 am, following a one hour visitation, Saturday, January 31, 2009 in St. James Catholic Church, Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials: Robert Laurie Cancer Institute of Chicago or St. James Church in Decatur.
